30 jobs in the PR and marketing world

Is a lack of career experience stifling your job search? Adding certain key skills to your résumé could be the boost you need. Plus, check out our roundup of current openings.

When angling for a plum position, you might opt to emphasize skills over experience.

If you’re a seasoned communicator, it’s your years in the trenches that will entice a potential employer, but if you’re an industry newbie, you probably lack much experience, and that’s OK—as long as you highlight your professional attributes.

Monster’s “List of important skills for a marketing résumé” shares abilities that hiring managers look for in a job candidate.

Adding these skills to your CV—if you have those qualities and good examples to back them up—could boost your chances for earning the position.

Here are three from the list:

  • Communications skills: Specificity in your description will set you apart. Give examples of how you’ve used multiple forms of communication to achieve success.
  • Influencer traits: It’s not how many followers you have on Instagram, but it is in the same vein. Share how you’ve used your influence to inspire others to do or buy something.
  • Analytics skills: It’s all about the numbers. You’ll probably be asked to share and assess data related to your campaigns and initiatives, and the better versed you are in the analytics department, the better off you’ll be.
