Struggling to pay the rent can spark amazing ideas.
For three guys in San Francisco, it led to a multi-billion-dollar global company.
According to Business Insider, Airbnb started in 2007 as an idea to make money so two roommates could afford their rent in San Francisco. Joe Gebbia and Brian Chesky provided air mattresses and breakfast in their apartment for three guests to stay during a conference.
They realized they were onto something and enlisted the help of a former roommate, Nathan Blecharczyk, to expand their business.
The three founders worked on perfecting their product, along with pitching—and being rejected by many—investors before achieving success, but Airbnb is now worth $31 billion and serves more than 65,000 cities and 190 countries.
You can be a part of this unique company that allows people to lease or rent lodging: Airbnb is looking for a product marketing manager, brand, at its San Francisco location.
The candidate will design and execute creative campaigns to develop Airbnb products and expand its user base. The position calls for a veteran communicator, as it requires at least 10 years’ experience with major brands and startups.
Here’s how Airbnb describes the role:
S/he will be responsible for extending our brand marketing campaigns into the Airbnb product via the creative, intelligent use of data. S/he will own the complete product marketing experience from idea to execution, collaborating with cross-functional teams and external partners around the world to ideate, design, develop, launch and grow our products and user base.
Success in this role is defined by the candidate’s ability to extend the brand campaigns in a way that demonstrates Direct Tangible Value to guests and/or hosts.
