Who would have thought that musicians Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift would help in a hospital’s social media strategy? That’s exactly what we at the Detroit Medical Center (DMC) were thinking with our most recent social media campaign.
Earlier this month, we held a ceremonial groundbreaking event for our new DMC Heart Hospital, opening in Detroit for 2014. Its opening will mark the first heart hospital to operate in the state of Michigan.
To help celebrate the opening of the hospital, we started a social media campaign that asked our DMC employees and the local Detroit community near us to send us their best looking “hand hearts,” which is the symbol made famous by Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, to show their support for the city of Detroit and for the new Heart Hospital.
Along with collecting photos of “hand hearts”, we also asked the question of “Why Do You Love the DMC?” and “Why Do You Love Detroit?” respectively for DMC employees and local Detroiters, using the Twitter hashtags of #iHeartDetroit and #iHeartDMC.
From a huge “group heart” to shots of local Detroit landmarks, we’ve had a lot of good responses so far from everyone with their photos.
