Infographic: Help sandwich generation caregivers combat stress

Nearly 40 percent of adults in the U.S. care for children and an aging parent. Providers can offer ways to keep this group healthy as they manage daily burdens.

Caregiving is taking a bite out of the “sandwich generation.”

Many adults ages 40 to 60 spend 1,350 hours a year raising a child while they care for an aging parent, according to this infographic from Northwest Primary Care.

The dual role is taking a toll on the health of caregivers, who assist with:

  • Transportation

  • Meals

  • Home health care services

  • Financial and legal counseling

The emotional and physical strain of caregiving can be exhausting. This infographic reminds communicators to educate patients and families on healthful eating, fending off depression and taking respites from their duties.
