Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women.

Eight million women in the U.S. live with heart disease.

February’s observance of American Heart Month reminds communicators that women and men are affected by cardiovascular ailments in different ways.

The American Heart Association says these are some common heart attack symptoms that women experience:

  • Uncomfortable (intermittent) pressure or pulling in the center of the chest

  • Pain or discomfort in the arms, back, legs, neck or stomach

  • Cold sweats

  • Nausea

  • Lightheadedness

This infographic sends clear messages to women about their heart health. Reminders include:

  • Brush your teeth often.

  • Choose birth control wisely.

  • Get enough sleep.

  • Skip soda and eat healthful foods.
